Description

This braided chocolate chip brioche is a melt-in-your-mouth treat, combining the rich buttery flavor of brioche dough with gooey chocolate chips. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a sweet dessert, this recipe is easy to make and guaranteed to impress anyone who takes a bite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warm
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until the dough begins to form, then knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  3. Shape the Brioche: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the dough, and fold the dough into a log. Divide the log into three equal sections, and braid the pieces together. Pinch the ends to seal.
  4. Second Rise: Transfer the braided dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until the dough has puffed up.
  5. Bake the Brioche: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the braided dough with an egg wash (whisked egg), and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the brioche is golden brown and cooked through. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure your milk is warm (but not too hot) to activate the yeast properly.
  • Feel free to add nuts or dried fruit for extra flavor variations.
  • Store leftover brioche in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
